Schools across the country are invited to take part in a high‑energy, football‑inspired literacy event this World Book Day, as Premier League Primary Stars in collaboration with National Literacy Trust team up to host The Great Big Footy and Booky Quiz 2026.
Taking place on Thursday 5 March 2026, the free 45‑minute live quiz is designed to get KS2 pupils excited about reading for pleasure, combining the magic of books with the energy and teamwork of football.
A national moment for World Book Day
Running from 9:30–10:15am, the online event will feature two quiz rounds – one football‑themed and one reading‑themed – with questions pitched by Premier League footballing heroes alongside some of the National Literacy Trust’s much‑loved authors. The quiz aims to bring reading to life through a format that feels fun, inclusive and accessible for all pupils, including reluctant readers.
Teachers will also have access to pre‑ and post‑event classroom activities to extend learning beyond the quiz and support ongoing reading engagement.
Part of the National Year of Reading 2026
This year’s quiz forms part of the National Literacy Trust’s Go All In Together campaign marking the National Year of Reading 2026, celebrating the power of reading to bring communities, classrooms and families closer together. The event will be hosted by a special ambassador, with organisers set to reveal the name in the coming weeks.
Schools invited to take part and win prizes
Schools joining the live stream will have opportunities to take part in real time, compete in interactive challenges and win prizes – all while enjoying a lively, football‑themed celebration of reading.
Designed with KS2 teachers in mind, the event provides an easy way to make World Book Day more engaging and meaningful, especially for pupils who connect strongly with sport and teamwork.
