New research conducted by Pampers Ninjamas has revealed that 8 in 10 parents believe that bedwetting has impacted their child’s time at school, with 63% of those surveyed agreeing that their child experiences less confidence at school as a result.
The study of 1,000 parents of children aged 4-7 years old who experience bedwetting also confirmed that bedwetting hasn’t had a positive effect on their child’s emotional wellbeing (59%).
What’s more, the survey also confirms that the impact of bedwetting isn’t just limited to a child’s confidence at school, with 84% of parents confirming that it has impacted their child’s self-confidence in general, revealing that their child appears worried to attend social activities, such as sleepovers (54%), due to bedwetting.
Paediatrician, TV presenter and author Dr Ranj said: “School and social activities play an indisputable role in a child’s development, not to mention the contribution they make to their confidence and wellbeing. It is therefore essential that parents and carers feel equipped to help support their children during periods of bedwetting to ensure no child misses out.”
Further findings (67% of parents surveyed who feel there is a stigma surrounding bedwetting) confirm that there is a demand for better educational materials around bedwetting, with 80% highlighting a need for more resources to specifically support with the emotional impact that bedwetting can have on their child.
That’s why Pampers Ninjamas is continuing their mission to build confidence in children with their Back to School with a Boost schools programme and Confidence Building Journal in schools across the UK. Since the launch six months ago, 600+ schools have signed up and it has reached over 65,000 children nationally. The programme has seen the roll out of Confidence Kits featuring lesson plans and materials which enable teachers to carry out wellbeing-boosting activities in their classrooms.
