Making AI training available to all educators in the United Kingdom and Ireland

We’re expanding the Google AI Educator Series to the UK and Ireland – a landmark initiative to equip educators with comprehensive AI literacy training and skills.

For technology to be truly impactful, school leaders and educators must lead the way. That’s why we’re expanding our free Google AI Educator Series to all educators in the UK and Ireland. From today, we’re making our in-depth AI training resources available to the more than 650,000 primary, secondary, further-ed and higher-ed teachers in the region. This program helps teachers build confidence to safely and responsibly use this technology to craft engaging lesson plans, make light work of admin and tailor lesson plans to diverse learning needs.

Initially launched to 6 million educators across the US and recently expanded to India and Korea, the content is delivered via teacher-led virtual and in-person events. The practical, bite-sized curriculum is built by educators, for educators. Teachers can immediately apply these concise lessons to personalize instruction, safely guide students, and reclaim vital teaching time. Upon completing modules, teachers earn micro-credentials and badges to showcase their AI literacy.

In the UK, analysis from Public First found that almost three quarters (74%) of roles in education have the potential to be enhanced by AI. The AI that works for Britain report highlights an opportunity for growth in the UK’s rapid adoption of these tools: while 15% of people are unlocking value and time savings, there is untapped potential for the rest of the nation to scale up. The Google Educators Series will equip teachers with similar opportunities to harness the power of this technology.

We’ve also partnered with the National Governance Association to create an AI Policy Toolkit, helping school governors and trustees safely adopt AI policy, tools and training. This toolkit and the Google Educator Series are landmark initiatives to ensure educators and school leaders are equipped with essential digital literacy skills for the modern classroom.
