Primary schools across the UK are being called to take part in the Get Set for Positive Energy Competition, a national initiative spearheaded by British Gas in partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB. Running from 23rd January to 25th April 2025, the competition challenges pupils to design a creative banner that encourages their communities to adopt simple, everyday energy-saving habits.
Leading the campaign are Olympic and Paralympic icons Tom Daley and Ellie Simmonds, who are encouraging young people to pledge their commitment to sustainability. By participating, schools will not only inspire their pupils to think critically about energy efficiency but will also stand a chance to win exciting prizes that can make a real difference.
The winning school will be awarded a prestigious £5,000 British Gas Positive Energy Grant, helping them invest in energy-efficient improvements. Additionally, the school’s winning design will be turned into a real-life banner, which will be unveiled in a special Get Set for Positive Energy assembly, hosted by a Team GB or ParalympicsGB athlete.
But the rewards don’t stop there. Twenty-five runner-up schools will also receive a £500 British Gas Positive Energy Grant, along with their very own custom-designed banner.
Last year, £25,000 worth of grants were distributed to schools across the UK, helping them create greener and more energy-efficient learning environments. British Gas also provided expert advice to help schools implement long-term energy-saving measures, ensuring the initiative delivers lasting benefits.
The Get Set for Positive Energy programme is designed to blend sustainability with Olympic and Paralympic values. Schools can access free, curriculum-linked resources to support teachers in educating students about environmental awareness and practical climate action.
