The Lionesses inspired a nation with their historic victory. Now their legacy is finding its way into classrooms, helping pupils build resilience, learn from setbacks and face the school year with confidence.
In the wake of the Lionesses’ historic success, Premier League Primary Stars is helping bring their legacy into classrooms with refreshed Resilience resources.
Featuring inspiring stories from Harry Kane and the Lionesses, the resource encourages pupils to:
- Learn from mistakes
- Build confidence
- Develop a mindset to turn “I can’t” into “I can”
This focus on resilience could not be more timely. With a third of young people struggling with confidence, helping children adopt positive coping strategies is key to both their wellbeing and their learning.
The wider impact of Premier League Primary Stars is clear:
- 92% of teachers say pupils enjoy sport more
- 96% report improved teamwork
- Three in four teachers feel more confident delivering PE
By using football as a force for good, the programme is helping children build not just academic skills, but also resilience, respect and teamwork – qualities that will serve them far beyond the classroom.
With stories of champions showing how setbacks can fuel success, the Resilience resources empower pupils to believe in themselves – just as the Lionesses have shown a generation that anything is possible.
Premier League Primary Stars is already helping children to learn through the power of football in more than 19,000 primary schools across England and Wales. Since its launch in 2017, it has delivered over 18 million attendances at club-led sessions, with 103 professional football club community organisations bringing the programme to life. The programme also engages 1.1 million children digitally each year, with more than 70,000 teachers registered for free curriculum-linked lesson plans. With £61.9m invested by the Premier League via its Charitable Fund, the impact is far-reaching, with 91% of teachers say the programme has boosted pupils’ enjoyment of sport.
